A 60th wedding anniversary celebration made possible by Cellular orthopedics

Three years ago, I received a call from the wife of a potential patient requesting an appointment for his “Stem Cell” procedure after she had visited my web site. Applying the usual inquiry, I learned that the couple lived in Wisconsin and that her previously active then 90-year-old plus husband could no longer walk. She would have to place him in a nursing home unless I was able to help. She did indicate at the initial conversation that he was otherwise quite healthy and had ridden a bicycle up until six months prior; now he was wheel chair bound because of arthritic knees. Local Orthopedic Surgeons had dismissed the notion of knee replacements in a 90-year-old. On the one hand, I empathized with the caller; on the other hand, I was totally negative about the chances of success in a 90-year-old. After listening to her desperation, I agreed to meet with the family in my DesPlaines office. The new patient intake was eventually completed per customary followed by a physical examination and review of images. Indeed, the only health issue in the patient was his arthritic knees; so, after a prolonged discussion with a discouraging prognosis on my part, at the repeated desperation of the couple to avoid a nursing home, I agreed to the procedure. The family also was made aware there was little chance of success; at this initial visit, the oldest son was the driver.

Last Friday, the couple returned to my office for a follow up visit, this time accompanied by their youngest son. The now 94-year old man walked in using a cane. The family had returned by car 48 hours prior from a winter sojourn in Arizona to where they had been migrating for many winters since retirement. In response to my question” so what have you been doing since the procedure?”; the response,”owe we celebrated our 60 th wedding anniversary with two-week cruise on the Danube this past winter”. The wife indicated they were returning to my office for an evaluation of her knees that were becoming symptomatic and a follow up on her husband to make sure nothing more need be done at this time. I will close this vignette with a comment about the youngest son who 30 years following a medial meniscectomy was experiencing arthritic related symptoms. As you might guess, after evaluation and review of images, he will be scheduling a Cellular Orthopedic intervention for his knee. My concluding observation, I wish this good fortune on all those with arthritis.
